I can already hear people against the title of this post. There are some people who seem to have a very clear idea on what they consider the “right” way to travel, but I don’t care 🙂
I think using a cruise to travel the world is a fantastic way to get a taste of what’s out there and can be a wonderful way to explore new things. Let me explain.
Get a taste of what you might like to go back to explore more in the future
When you go on a cruise, you get to visit a list of different destinations. Sure, you’re only there for a few hours, but that’s just enough to get a bit of a taste to see if it’s somewhere you’d like to travel back to again in the future for a longer, more in depth stay. When I traveled with Carnival to the Caribbean, I got to visit ports in Honduras, Belize and Mexico. Going in, I had never really thought about visiting Honduras, I was very excited about seeing Belize and I never really had high plans about visiting Mexico. After experiencing the cruise, I got to see Honduras, which I may never have visited on my own, I got to experience climbing temples in Belize, and I got to see Mexico which originally I wasn’t super excited about, but it turns out that I can’t wait to go back and explore some more!
See things you wouldn’t have seen before
The cruises also offer tours that you can take, of course choosing this option will depend on your budget. It’s another great option for seeing parts of a country you might not have otherwise seen. We didn’t want to spend too much in excursions so in Honduras we spent the morning at the beach, enjoying the warm water, and in the afternoon we looked at the shops and went on a nature walk where we found a nice area to sit looking out over the water. In Belize we went on a jungle hike and climbed up a temple and saw others while learning about their history, then we got to try some of the local cuisine. During our time in Mexico we spent half a day visiting a church and an orphanage which was such an amazing experience. On our way to and from we also got to see the real side of Cozumel, not just the tourist areas. Because of cruising, I was able to have experiences I never thought possible, and to me, that is so worth it!
Have you ever been on a cruise before? What has your experience been?
I would like to extend a large thank you to Carnival for hosting me on this great cruise experience. My opinions, as always, are my own.
